What is a Motorcycle? A motorized design that's based on the bicycle. The typical motorcycle has an air-cooled engine supported in a metal frame between two wheels. The first motorcycle, designed and built by German inventors Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach in Cannstatt (a city district of Stuttgart) in 1885 was the first petroleum-powered vehicle ever. They called their invention Reitwagen ("riding car"). British manufacturers held a dominant position in this market until the rise of the Japanese manufacturers (led by Honda) in the late 60's and early 70's who were able to produce designs faster and cheaper.
The chassis is typically made from welded aluminium or steel struts, with the rear suspension being an integral component in the design. Some motorcycles include the engine as a load bearing (or stressed) member; this has been used all through bike history but is now becoming more common. The fuel tank is usually mounted above the engine. This tank is generally made of stamped, brazed or welded sheet steel, or blow-molded high-density polyethylene. The wheel rims are usually steel, either with steel spokes and an aluminium hub, or 'mag' type sandcast aluminium. Performance racing dirt bikes often use carbon-fibre wheels, but the expense of these wheels is prohibitively high for general usage.

Before You Ride:
-Familiarize yourself before you ride. Read and understand the instruction manual and observe all
safety and warning labels. Check the controls.
-Wear the proper clothing/pads including helmet, elbow pads, knee pads, wrist guards, gloves and shoes.
-Check the equipment including the nuts and bolts, steering, brakes and controls, frame (for stress and fractures)
and tires (for wear). Inspect your dirt bike thoroughly before each use for loose or missing parts.
When Riding You should:
1.Always wear a helmet and other protective gear.
2.Never ride on public roads - another vehicle could hit you.
3.Never ride under the influence of alcohol or other drugs.
4.Never carry a passenger on a single-rider vehicle.
5.Ride a motorcycle that's right for your age. The guidelines are:
a. Age 6 and older - Under 70cc
b. Age 12 and older - 70cc to 90cc
c. Age 16 and older - Over 90cc
6.Supervise riders younger than 16
7.Ride only on designated trails and at a safe speed.

Motorcycle Paper Cartridge Air Filters
First of all, be aware that on some engines, the air flows in from the underside of the filter, so you may need to remove it to see just how dirty it is. A quick glance from the outside may overlook a mess underneath.
Pre-cleaners
Many engines built today will have a thin foam pre-cleaner installed in front of the paper cartridge filter and if serviced frequently, not only it will help protect the engine, it will also extend the life of the paper filter as well.
1. Remove the air filter and separate it from the pre cleaner if so equipped.
2. Tap the paper filter on a solid surface in order to shake loose the heavier deposits.
3. If the filter is not too dirty you can use compressed air from the back side of the filter to blow the remaining dirt from the pleats of the paper element.
Cleaning Wire Spoke Wheels on your motorcycle:
Cleaning wire spoke wheels is always a hassle, and pre-made kits can be purchased to assist in cleaning.
Instead of buying these kits, I buy rag bags from the second hand store. They are sorted by hand and only cotton items are included.
I cut the items into strips, maybe 12" long, 1" wide.
After washing the wheels, run a strip between the spokes, one at a time, starting at the hub and working toward the tire. Do it again with a bit of liquid wax on the contact area. It's like polishing shoes, one end of the strip in either hand, pull, pull, back and forth.
Once the initial grungy cleaning is done and wax applied, it only takes a few minutes to take a swipe at the spokes and around the rim the next time.
