Scooter Definitions and Types:
Motor Scooters: These streamlined gas scooters pair the portability of foldable kick scooters with the power
of a gas engine. Riding at up to 30 mph, gas motor scooters are the most popular gas commuter scooters. Most come with
detachable seats for increased comfort during long rides. They are extremely popular with college students because they
are a hip way to get from class to class, but they can still fold them down to store them at their desk during class.
Electric Scooters: The electric scooter basically has the same characteristics as the gas (above) except it runs
off of a battery and can be much lighter than it's "gas" type brother.
Powerboards: Gas powerboards are designed for performance both within the racing arena and trick competitions.
Therefore, their design is as minimal as possible. The goal is to pair the strongest, lightest board available with the
most powerful engine to reach the highest speeds possible.
Moped Scooter: These modern scooters embody the coolness of their Vespa and Lambretta predecessors in a more affordable
package. Riding at 30 mph with storage beneath the seat, moped scooters are great for running errands around town and
taking pleasure rides out into the country.
Important Scooter Safety Tips:
Follow these safety tips to make riding your electric/gas scooter both fun and safe!
Before You Ride Your Scooter:
-Familiarize yourself with your scooter before you ride. Read and understand the instruction manual and observe all safety and warning labels on your motor scooter. Check the controls.
-Wear the proper clothing/pads including helmet, elbow pads, knee pads, wrist guards, gloves and shoes.
-Check the scooter's equipment including the nuts and bolts, steering, brakes and controls, frame (for stress and fractures) and tires (for wear). Inspect your scooter thoroughly before each use for loose or missing parts.
When Riding Your Scooter:
-Do not dart out of driveways or from between parked cars.
-Stop at all stop signs. Be careful when checking traffic and don't swerve when looking over your shoulder.
-Always go with traffic flow and keep to the far side of the road.
-Always wear your safety gear.
-Never ride on sidewalks.
-Never ride with more than one person.
-Avoid gravel, sand, grass or rough surfaces.
-Remember that brakes are designed to control speed as well as stop the electric scooter.
-Practice braking for slow-down and smooth stopping.

Scooter Tips, Q&A's, Troubleshooting Section:
-Electric scooter troubleshooting-
Q: Why won't my scooter turn on?
A: First, double check that the power switch is turned "ON". I know it's silly, but check anyway. Then, check that your fuse is installed properly. Locate and open the fuse compartment on the left hand side of scooter. Make sure that a fuse is present. Re-insert the fuse and tighten the fuse compartment cap. Then, check your battery. If it is disconnected, open the cover and connect the battery. If it is drained, charge the battery. Check all of the electrical connections and make sure everything is in connected properly. There may be a fault in the electrical system that can be fixed by restoring a connection.
-Spark Plug Tips-
The spark plug is a crucial and vulnerable part on your two stroke engine. Your spark plug can be located on the top of the engine under the protective rubber boot. Your scooter should come with a tool kit containing a spark plug wrench for easy removal.
The spark plug must be clean, and must be replaced promptly when signs of wear begin to show. The condition of the spark plug can tell you a lot about how your motor is running. The spark plug should be a light brown or golden color like the picture on the right. If the electrode is white, that can be a sign that your scooter is running too hot. This can be a result of either running too lean (See the Carburetor section), or that the fuel and oil mixture is too lean (See the Fuel and Oil mixture section). If you are running your scooter to rich then your spark plug may be black, covered with either gas, oil, or carbon.
Another common problem is that the spark plug gets clogged up with carbon and/or oil and "fouls". This should be checked by assuring the electrode has a clean gap of .023 in. If you are having a problem with fouling, just be sure that the gap, as shown to the right, is clean and free of obstruction, A small piece of a fine grit sandpaper usually works well for this. New spark plugs can be purchased from us on our parts page, or at almost any local hardware or auto parts store.
